CFS Combined T+V

Screw connection carrying shear and tension at once - the AISI S100-16 §J4.5 interaction, in ASD or LRFD, using the omega and phi as printed in the specification.

AISI S100-16 w/S3-22

AISI S100-16 w/S3-22 §J4.5 (combined shear + tension)

What it checks

The module designs a cold-formed steel screw connection that carries shear and tension simultaneously. It implements the interaction requirements of AISI S100-16 w/Supplement S3-22 §J4.5 for both design methods. The engine applies the specific resistance and safety factors printed in the specification, using φ = 0.50 for LRFD and Ω = 3.00 for ASD. The design method determines the load basis and capacity calculation. For LRFD, the module uses factored demands and calculates capacity as φ · Pn. For ASD, it uses service demands and calculates capacity as Pn / Ω. The module echoes the selected design method back in the results to confirm the basis of the calculation. Per §J4.5, the connection must satisfy both interactions simultaneously. The module evaluates the combined effect of tension and shear to ensure the connection meets the linear interaction criteria defined in the code. The results reflect the simultaneous satisfaction of these interaction equations.

What it reports

Code references

The engine cites AISI S100-16 w/S3-22 §J4.5 for the combined shear and tension interaction. It references §J4.4.3 for the printed values of Ω = 3.00 and φ = 0.50. The module also references §J4.4.2 for pull-over considerations related to the effective washer or head outer diameter. The source notes that §A4.1.2 is S100-12 numbering and is not a section of S100-16 w/S3-22.

Limits

The module assumes standard self-drilling screws and uses typical industry catalog values for washer and head diameters unless a custom value is provided. It does not account for non-standard or proprietary connection geometries beyond the custom diameter input. The interaction check is limited to the linear form specified in §J4.5.1. Results are engineering aids; the engineer of record is responsible for the design.
